    only time using vinyl is for arches . i prefer metal it's easier to put up and can coat it same day. paper is like doing 4 coats unless use a hopper but still need compound to adhere it to the wall and its more expensive . some plus to the paper bead good along shower it doesn't take as much mud to fill them but very hard to cut the edge after coating them. I'll use metal corner bead any day unless was steel stud or area where might not be wood to attach. not necessary to mesh the edges that waste of time just mud it in with thick green usg be fine use enough nails like you said 12-16"

      Yeah I quit the metal bead over 20 years ago. I used the Trim-Tex Jumbo for many years, but a few years ago I got one of those Auto Pro tools for the No-Coat and now I mostly use the paper faced in the video. I shot this video mostly to explain how each beat is attached though.

    I recently purchased the fibafuse tape. There is no mark down the center for "creasability". Has the manufacturer changed this? I actually see in comments below that I guess they stopped adding the crease, but you can still crease it?

    in northeast call it a blow out not sure where it got name california patch but they are effective in certain situations. that is a good tip to butter the back of the patch cause you could get a void there where theres no compound if cut the patch too small.

    I've used paint rollers to apply mud for years, works great. I also use a corner roller to mud corners, then you can use your flusher as usual. I also use smoothing blades for most of he time instead of regular knives. Keep your mud nice and soft and the roller, smoothing blade combo works very well most of the time.

    It may just be the lighting but does is that compound darker that standard compound? It looks a lot darker than the ceiling. I’ve heard of guys adding color to their mud to help them distinguish the newly applied mud vs the existing painted surface (especially if it’s white). If not in this project, have you ever used colorants like that before? Do you find them useful? And where would you find something like that? I’m a GC and we had a bad experience with a new drywall sub we were trying out and they left huge stripes across a ceiling with a power sander, (it was a very large existing ceiling that had a heavy knockdown that we floated over when we added on to the room) after they sanded, the ceiling looked live waves in the ocean. They couldn’t fix it (we had them try 3 times) so we ended up just fixing it ourselves. In retrospect it would’ve been helpful to have colorant in the mud to be able to see where our new coat of mud covered over their bizarre wavy ceiling, especially for when we sanded it.

    • @thatdrywallguy
      @thatdrywallguy 9 дней назад

      No it was just regular compound. The first coat was a setting compound though. I don't really add anything to my compound except water. There is an additive called never miss that would have worked for you on the ceiling.

  • @WanJae42
    @WanJae42 Месяц назад

    Awesome. Is the concern with heat one of just wanting the mud not to get too hot in summer heat in general? Or is it a concern that the relative difference in temperature between the attic and garage will cause air migration, or having one side cool and one side hot might affect the mud?

    • @thatdrywallguy
      @thatdrywallguy Месяц назад

      I think the differences in temperature between the garage and attic as well as the constantly changing relative humidity is the problem, This leads to expansion and contraction which is different for the different materials.

    • @WanJae42
      @WanJae42 Месяц назад

      I see, thank you! In my climate (nearly Florida), both garage and attic are atrociously hot, but the garage stays dehumidified. I guess that can still create these issues. Thanks.

    came to look at insulation, and couldn't help but see the horrible electrical work. 0:26 wire ran behind the box, sandwiched between it and exterior sheathing. big no-no! other places staples right tight against the wire bend radiuses, where slight pulling could damage the wire outer jacket and kink the conductors. guess inspectors are getting more lax, but they'd have made us rewire much of that in the mid to late 90's. guess that's why they're forcing AFCI down everyone's throats.

    I rewired my house in copper had aluminum wire I just took it to the studs on the walls where outlets were which was most walls. I used this method of rolling over the tape I didn't want to invest in automatic drywall taping machine for one job. Waste more compound but it's not that expensive. Compared to what a contractor wanted to do the job which was $28k dollars. I love doing DIY jobs might take me longer sometimes I have to do it over saves ton of money.

    Short and sweet, just the answer I needed! You mentioned you wouldn't have used that tape. Does that mean you'd use the grey mesh tape for some reason, or is there something else I'm not aware of yet? Thank you

    • @BigB2316
      @BigB2316 2 месяца назад

      Being an "off angle" he almost certianly means "No Coat" or "Strait-Flex". These are special tapes that are more ridged than regular paper tape and help maintain a crisp clean line on off angles. They can be used for problematic 90 deg angles too but regular paper tape is almost always a better more cost effective option. Mesh tape isn't great/recommended for inside corners but people do use it. Especially plasterers.
